Watching Taemin’s solo debut stage and my heart goes:
Lately I have seen a lot of people wondering out loud, as to why it was Taemin who got a solo debut, and not more (by most perceived as) more well versed singers like Jinki and Jonghyun.
Taemin might not be SHINee’s best singers (sound and preferences aside, both Jonghyun and Jinki have a better technique), but he is the most well-rounded performer. Hence why I used this video as an example. Taemin makes the stage his own. Yes, he has background dancers but he is the complete focus. There is a difference between being a singer and a performer.
To give two examples, I picked these two performances for Jinki and Jonghyun to show the difference in performance style with Taemin. Both Jinki and Jonghyun interact far more with the people they share the stage with, the performance is enjoyable (and I would buy solo CD’s brought out by both of them) but they need more interaction to make the stage their own. They’d be perfect as band type singers, something I don’t see Taemin doing.
My point is, Taemin is probably the most well rounded solo performer in SHINee. Yes, Jinki and Jonghyun have a better technique and are charismatic on stage, but with his dance and the fact that Taemin more easily manages on his own, make him a more suitable candidate for a solo debut.
That being said, Jonghyun has expressed not to be interested in going solo, and Jinki’s still recovering from his surgery, so— Y’all can sit your ass down and be glad that instead of putting our boys on hold SM’s still spreading the word and creating a buzz for our boys.
I mean, let’s be honest. We should be proud that even our “third best singer” is suitable for a debut. That’s awesome, that’s amazing and we should be supporting our maknae instead of discussing whether he “deserves” this or not.
